The Environment Agency have installed EA water depth logger at Goosehill Bridge, Castelton. This is now live at: https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/station/9595 . The water depth is updated every 15 minutes and the datum is the crest of the weir that was installed in 1984/5 by TSG and a group from Manchester Poly. The metre ruler on the left bank of the river when looking downstream from the bridge has the same datum so the levels on the web should be the same as the levels on the ruler.. The outputs contributing to the total flow are Peak Cavern, Slop Moll, Peakshole Sough and Russet Well.

The new Peak Speedwell Survey is now published.
Following the death of John S Beck in 2015, i took on the task of re-working the survey. John had used AutoCAD to draw the survey that was published in 2012, which originally i tried using to update the survey but this was pretty limiting and once my laptop died, i had to purchase a more modern laptop, this meant that my version of AutoCAD stopped working so a new software package was required.
Update: 19th February 2024
The connection from the bottom of Leviathan through to Far Sump Extensions is currently impassable. Through Trips to Peak Cavern from Titan are currently not possible so if you do go down Titan, be prepared to go back up. We will not be taking bookings for through trips to Peak Cavern at the moment.
The Peak Cavern Keyholder team are currently investigating the blockage, and hopefully we will have a plan of action going forward to restore this route. Updates will appear in due course.
Note: This is also known as the old Stemple Highway Inlet Sumps 1 and 2.

Watershed Aven / Boom! fixed aids are unsafe and need replacing - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLIMB (31/01/2024)
THE CAVES BENEATH THE PEAK DISTRICT have intrigued humankind for thousands of years. As people explored further into the caves, they would often reach a point where the roof sloped down into a pool of water and they could go no further.
This book tells the story of those who would not be stopped by the water and who, by a combination of determination, resourcefulness, technical innovation and a good measure of courage, sought to dive through those pools, to enter the unknown passages and to discover what lay beyond. This is a tale of true adventure and exploration, told by one of those involved.
It had been reported to the Peak Cavern keyholders that there is a damaged section of rope in Victoria Aven - this whole area has now been completely re-rigged and the very large boulder assessed and can now again be included in the list of possible trips within the system.
However, there are still loose rocks of varying sizes which could easily be displaced and could cause serious damage/harm so please exercise extreme caution!
