About this site
The Peak Speedwell System located behind the village of Castleton, Derbyshire. An extensive system of stream caverns, vertical vein cavities, pitches; together totaling over 18km of passage, one of the deepest underground cave dives in the UK, the highest underground pitch in the UK which is 145 metres high.
The idea of a website dedicated to the system came about in 1999 when I first became interested in the Peak Speedwell System but nothing really started until 2002 when I started gathering information together and coming up with ideas but I with no website design or HTML experience, nothing went online. A few people showed interest but moved to China not long afterwards.
Forward to 2008 and somebody mentioned Joomla, Content Management System. Looking around the web, I found other caving sites powered by Joomla so I decided to use Joomla to construct this website. Earlier this year, I registered by domain name, got some hosting space and started constructing the website.
The website is somewhere for cavers and other interested parties to go to find information about the system. Basically the website will show:
- Current access information
- Electronic diary for Peak and Titan Bookings
- Lists of key holders
- System news
- Entrance info
- Descriptions
- Photograph archive
- Key exploration date info
- Bibliography info
- Hydrology info
- Conservation
- Mining info
- ... and much more ...
It will basically be an archive about the system, this can built upon over the years.
Anybody who has an interest in the system, who has ideas for the website or would like to get involved, please contact me through the contact us page.
